Nepalnews,com has reported Aian Influenza (AI) in Banke (Terai) district in Mid Western Developmental region of Nepal. It is not surprising that AI is detected in Banke due to the porous Indo - Nepal boder, poor border management and weak surveillance system in Nepal. Doubt remains, whether we have been able to detect most of the suspected AI outbreaks?. Please read below published in Nepalnews.com, "Bird flu, the Avian Influenza H5N1 virus, has been detected in various four places of Banke district.District Livestock Services Office, Banke confirmed the prevalence of bird flu in the district on Tuesday after it received a report from the central laboratory in Kathmandu. It had sent samples of poultry products after over 150 chickens and ducks died in a short span in Binauna, Kohalpur, Phattepur and Nepalgunj. Authorities have started taking special measures to control the virus from spreading. They have declared Chacharpharka of Binauna – 4 as the ‘hotspot” and decided to kill and desterilise poultry and poultry products in and around the area. An emergency meeting of chiefs of various offices in the district Tuesday decided to take the special measures at Chacharpharka and 500 metres around it. Although, bird flu was found in Kohalpur, Phattepur and Nepalgunj municipality, authorities have said necessary action have already been taken in those places."
